'NCC organised Annual Training Camp (Atc)  At Uri  After 15 Years'

A National Cadet Corps (NCC) Annual Training Camp (ATC) at Uri camp was organised at Army Goodwill School, Uri. The Camp was organised under the aegis of J&K NCC Directorate Jammu & NCC Group Headquarter Srinagar. The camp was a gog with activities as a nine days camp starting from 18 -26 Oct 20. This being a unique feat for Uri as this was the first camp conducted after a span of 15 years and also the first in the valley after the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

As many as 110 Boys (SD/JD) NCC cadets participated from Schools and Colleges of Uri, Tangdhar, Kupwara, Bandipora, Sopore, Baramulla &Pattan. They underwent rigorous training amid strict adherence of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ward off corona virus infection. Rapid Covid testing of cadets & staff was carried out by team of Block Medical Officer, Uri.

In these difficult times when no schools and colleges are able to function, NCC came forward in clearing the apprehension and paving the way for undertaking vigorous activities in their camp. Thus, bringing in confidence and joy to the youth & awam.

The main purpose of the camp was to bring positive change in youth and imbibe a culture of hard work & dedication . The aim was to bring out leaders among the youth and to motivate the participants to join defence forces and serve the nation.

The training curriculum included basic training like physical training, drill, weapon training, firing, map reading and grooming in a way to instill confidence among cadets. As part of camp the cadets also participated in various sports competitions, lectures by decorated Army Officers and Civ Dignitaries. Special speakers detailed by Chinar Corps gave talks on terrorism, Kashmiri at & drug menace. They were also taken to visit the " Kaman Post" the first post of Indian Army on NH-44 and undertook social work like distribution of sanitizing items to villagers & swatchta drive in Uri town.

GOC, 19 Inf Div visited the camp on 24 Oct 20, where he was given Guard of Honour by the cadets. Thereafter, he inspected the training norm being followed in the camp. GOC gave a motivational talk & personally interacted with cadets over a cup of tea. GOC felicitated meritorious cadets. These cadets were inspired by the GOC and sang NCC song at the end. Overall, the camp was a huge success in these difficult times and paved the way as to how the activities are to be conducted during COVID-19 pandemic and boosted morale & confidence of the participating cadets. These cadets are now beaming with confidence and new found energy to take on the challenges of life.
