'Dr. Ravi Kumar Kaith’s (Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Reasi) Efforts Transform Dairy and Poultry Sector in Reasi'

Under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Integrated Dairy Development Scheme (IDDS), and Integrated Poultry Development Programme (IPDP), Chief Animal Husbandry Officer (CAHO) Reasi, Dr. Ravi Kumar Kaith, has been leading transformative efforts in the dairy and poultry sectors of District Reasi. Once lagging behind other districts of Jammu Division, Reasi is now progressing rapidly in livestock farming, thanks to the dedicated efforts of Dr. Kaith and his team.

Inspection of Dairy, Poultry, and Milk Collection Units

During his inspection of various units across multiple blocks in District Reasi, Dr. Kaith reviewed the Heifer Units, Automatic Milk Collection Units (AMCUs), and Free Range Poultry Units. These units, established under HADP, IDDS, and IPDP, aim to enhance livestock productivity, ensure fair pricing for dairy farmers, and improve poultry farming practices.

Dairy Sector Development

Dr. Kaith has played a crucial role in sanctioning and establishing Heifer Units under HADP, promoting the breeding of high-yield milch animals. Additionally, under the Integrated Dairy Development Scheme (IDDS), high-quality milch cows and buffaloes have been imported from outside the Union Territory of J&K to improve milk production.

To further streamline milk collection and quality maintenance, Automatic Milk Collection Units (AMCUs) have been set up in various blocks of Reasi. These units provide dairy farmers with fair and transparent pricing while ensuring high standards in milk production and supply.

Strengthening the Poultry Sector

In addition to dairy farming, Dr. Kaith has focused on boosting the poultry industry in Reasi. Under the Integrated Poultry Development Programme (IPDP), large-scale broiler farms with capacities ranging from 1,000 to 5,000 birds have been established. Furthermore, 20 Free Range Units under HADP have been set up to promote local egg production and encourage backyard poultry farming.

A Farmer-Friendly Approach

Dr. Kaith actively interacts with livestock farmers, guiding them on the benefits of various state and central government schemes under HADP, IDDS, and IPDP. His farmer-friendly approach and mission-mode work style have earned him widespread appreciation among the farming community.

Through his efforts, District Reasi is now emerging as a model for dairy and poultry farming in Jammu Division, ensuring increased incomes and better livelihoods for livestock farmers.
