India's Olympic gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won a silver medal at the Pavo Nurmi Games in Finland, setting a new national record. Chopra bettered her previous national record by throwing 89.30m javelin, which she had set in March last year with a throw of 88.07m in Patiala.



This was Chopra's first international event since the Olympics, who won the gold medal in the javelin throw to a historic distance of 87.58 meters at the Tokyo Olympics on August 7, 2021.



Oliver Helander won the gold at the Pavo Nurmi Games with a throw of 89.93m, while world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada finished third with a throw of 86.60m.



The Pavo Nurmi Games are one of the largest track-and-field competitions in the World Athletics Continental Tour after the Diamond League. After creating history at the Pavo Nurmi Games in Finland, Neeraj Chopra will take part in the Kuorten Games before traveling to Sweden for the Stockholm stage of the Diamond League.
