'Urban local body sweepers sitting on dharna in Samba'

The sweepers of the Urban Local Bodies Department have once again sat on a dharna in the premises of the Municipal Council, Samba in support of their long pending demands.

Under the leadership of State President of Safai Karamcharis Union, Ravi Randhawa, a large number of Safai Karmacharis gathered in front of Samba Municipality. They raised slogans against the government. They allege that for the last several months, the sanitation workers have been protesting against the government for their long pending demands, but the government has not fulfilled their long pending demands till date.

Not only this, last month the office bearers of urban local bodies held a meeting with the members of Safai Karamcharis Union in Srinagar and assured to fulfill their demands soon. After that, the members of Safai Karamchari Union made a compromise with them, but after a month when their demands were not met, they again sat on strike. He also said that the government was fooling them by giving false assurances.

He further said that at that time he had made an agreement with the government because the festival of Navratri and Diwali was about to come, so he had agreed with the government.

Talking to media persons, State President of Urban Local Bodies Association Ravi Randhawa said that we have been continuously agitating for our demands for a long time, but the government is fooling them every time. We keep demanding the government to make a policy for their regularization, create posts in municipalities where they are not there yet and support their demands like old pension schemes.

He also demanded implementation of UT Act in Jammu.
