In honour of the 28th Anniversary of the Enforced Disappearance of the 11th Panchen Lama, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the Tibetan Communities in Australia called upon the Chinese government to reveal the fate and whereabouts of Panchen Rinpoche and his family.
Tibetan Community in Canberra held a peaceful protest before the Chinese Embassy demanding an immediate release of the young Panchen Lama. Similar demonstrations were also organised by the Tibetan Communities in Queensland, New Castle and Perth to mark the Anniversary and raised their voices against the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of the Tibetan people in Tibet, including an immediate halt to the forced disappearance of prominent religious figures, leaders, and advocates.
Dawa Sangmo, the Chinese Liaison officer of the Tibet Information Office, attended the Victoria Tibetan Community’s peaceful-protest event that was organised in front of the Chinese Consulate in Melbourne. She urged the Chinese government to reveal credible information on the whereabouts and well-being of the 11th Panchen Lama while imploring the international community to condemn the Chinese government’s maltreatment of Tibetan Buddhism through abuse of the religious freedom of the Tibetan people.
