'PT Usha elected president of Indian Olympic Association'

Veteran Indian woman athlete PT Usha has been elected as the new President of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).



Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, who was earlier the Union Sports Minister, has congratulated PT Usha on being appointed as the President.



Rijiju tweeted, "Congratulations to the great golden girl, P T Usha, on being elected as the President of the Indian Olympic Association. I congratulate all the sports heroes of our country on becoming office bearers of the prestigious IOA! A nation owes them Proud!"

Earlier, Usha had said that she was filing nomination for the post.



PT Usha had tweeted on Saturday, "With the warm support of my fellow athletes and National Federations, I am humbled and honored to accept and file my nomination for President of the IOA!"

Sports Authority of India (Sai) also retweeted Rijiju's tweet.



Star sprinter Usha is one of India's greatest athletes. He has won four gold medals and seven silver medals in the Asian Games. She missed a medal by one second in the women's 400 meters hurdles at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympics. His timing of 55.42 s is still a national record.
