Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has praised Lovlina Borgohain and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu for their excellent performance in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In the Tokyo Olympics held in July-August, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal, while boxer Lovlina won the bronze medal.



Anurag Thakur said that Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina have brought North East recognition on the global map with their performance in sports.



"Out of the six individual medals won by India in the 2020 Olympics, two were won by Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain," Thakur said at an event here. With his performance, he has placed the Northeast not only on the Indian map but also on the global map."



Let us tell you that last month Mirabai Chanu, Lovlina and star shuttler PV Sindhu made it to the cover page of fashion magazine Vogue. This year the Olympics were held with COVID-19 restrictions and the event was held behind closed doors. About 11,000 athletes from more than 200 countries took part in the Tokyo Olympics.



India registered its best performance in the Olympics with seven medals (one gold, two silver and four bronze).
