The crime branch of Ahmedabad Police arrested conman Kiran Patel's wife Malini Patel for trying to capture the bungalow of a senior citizen in the city. Kiran Patel was arrested earlier this month for impersonating a top official in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and holding meetings with top officials in Jammu and Kashmir.
In the bungalow grab case, Kiran Patel was booked on charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy. His wife, Malini Patel, was named as a co-accused in the case.
The FIR said Kiran Patel tried to extort a bungalow from a landlord in a posh area of Ahmedabad by posing as a Class-I officer in the PMO and falsely claiming to have close links with politicians.
The complainant in the case, Jagdish Chavda (63) owned a bungalow in the Shilaj area, but wanted to sell it due to personal reasons. In February 2022, Kiran Patel contacted Chavda and claimed to be a real estate agent. He told the owner that if his property was renovated, he would get a good price.
According to the FIR, Patel, his wife Malini and an interior designer started the work after Chavda agreed to renovate the bungalow and they took Rs 35 lakh from him in instalments. After the renovation work started, Chavda went to stay at his friend's house. After some time, Chavda came to know that Kiran Patel and his wife had put up their name plate outside the bungalow. They had also entered the house.
When this was opposed, the Patel couple left the bungalow without completing the repair work.
