The residents Humhama and its adjoining areas on Wednesday held a protest demonstration against demolition drive being carried out in the area by the Budgam district administration.
The protesting residents told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that two months ago tehsildar Humhama had issued a notice to around 1700 households of Humhama to vacate the land.
"Our property land was taken by the government for construction of airport, though compensation was provided for same, however, many residents of the area were left with no land, so they constructed their houses on Kahcharai. Now the government is asking them vacate this land and have started demolition drive for the same,” they said.
They also said that if government is asking them vacate the land, they should give back them their own land first.
Meanwhile, one of the protesting residents said that even though they met Assistant Commissioner revenue Budgam, he, however, asked them to go to the court as he cannot do anything
He said that the ACR informed them that the solution of the matter lie with the court alone.
