'Four killed as miscreants set train on fire in Dhaka ahead of Bangladesh election'

At least four people were killed and several injured as unidentified miscreants set fire to a Benapole Express train in Dhaka on Friday night.

Four compartments of Dhaka bound Benapole Express train were burnt at Gopibagh in Dhaka just before reaching the Kamalapur railway station at around 9 pm, said Fire Service media cell official Talha Bin Zasim.

Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Media Cell, said they recovered four bodies from the gutted coaches of the train. Eight fire-fighting units doused the flame after about one and a half hours of frantic efforts.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately, he said.

A young man died while trying to evacuate the passengers of the fire-hit train, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Iqbal Hossain.

However, multiple incidents of fire and violence were reported throughout Bangladesh as the election campaign ended on Friday morning, according to media reports.
