Two senior army officers and a senior policeman of Jammu and Kashmir Police were killed in firing in Anantnag on Wednesday. Jammu and Kashmir officials said a colonel and a major of the Indian Army and a deputy superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police were killed in the firing. According to reports, one of the martyrs was identified as Colonel Manpreet Singh of 19 Rashtriya Rifles of the Indian Army. The encounter started when security forces launched anti-terrorist operation in Gadole area, where terrorists were hiding.

An Indian Army officer said that a Jammu and Kashmir Police officer also lost his life in the encounter. Based on specific intelligence, Army officers who had gone to search for terrorists in the area were leading the soldiers from the front. According to the official, the commanding colonel and a major of the Rashtriya Rifles unit were martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Anantnag, Kashmir. The officer was commanding 19 RR. Officials said the operation against terrorists in Gadole area had started on Tuesday evening, but it was stopped at night.
